AGRA: A 14-year-old boy from Hathras, Uttar Pradesh, tragically passed away shortly after undergoing a complex five-hour surgery at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital, where doctors removed approximately 65 foreign objects, including batteries, chains, razor blade fragments, and screws, from his stomach.

Aditya Sharma was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital after suffering from severe abdominal issues. “He died due to an intestinal infection,” a hospital official reported on Saturday, noting that the objects had likely been swallowed over time. His father, Sanchet Sharma, a medical representative, explained that Aditya had begun experiencing shortness of breath and discomfort on October 13, which led the family to seek medical help in Agra. Over the following two weeks, they visited hospitals in four cities—Jaipur, Aligarh, Noida, and Delhi—in search of a proper diagnosis.

“Aditya died on the night of October 28. All of this unfolded within a month… He had no prior physical or mental health issues,” said Sharma, who resides in Ratnagarbha Colony. Aditya was the only son of the family. After being referred to a hospital in Jaipur, scans revealed issues, and he returned to Uttar Pradesh on October 19.

Just two days later, Aditya’s breathing difficulties returned, prompting his parents to rush him to a hospital in Aligarh, where a CT scan identified a nasal blockage that doctors successfully addressed. However, abdominal pain soon followed, and on October 26, an ultrasound revealed 19 objects lodged in his stomach. He was immediately referred to a private hospital in Noida, where doctors discovered 42 objects and called for urgent intervention.

Aditya was then transferred to Safdarjung Hospital, where scans ultimately revealed a total of 65 objects in his stomach. His condition worsened significantly, with his heart rate soaring to 280 beats per minute.
