London: Two Indian students in their 20s lost their lives, while two others sustained serious injuries after their car crashed into a tree in County Carlow, southern Ireland, Irish police said.

Cherekuri Suresh Chowdary and Chithoori Bhargav were pronounced dead at the scene following the accident early Friday morning. Emergency services and local police, known as the Gardai, responded to the fatal crash.

The Indian Embassy in Dublin expressed condolences on social media, stating, “The Embassy team is in touch with the family and friends of the deceased and is extending all possible support to the two injured Indian nationals.”

Superintendent Anthony Farrell of Carlow Garda Station said, “A black Audi A6 was traveling towards Carlow town when it veered off the road and hit a tree at Graiguenaspiddoge. The vehicle is believed to have come from the Mount Leinster area through Fenagh before reaching Carlow. All occupants of the car were part of the Indian community living together in Carlow town. Our sincere sympathies go out to them.”

The two injured passengers, a man and a woman in their 20s, were taken to St. Luke’s General Hospital in Kilkenny with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to The Irish Times, the four friends had recently completed their studies at South East Technological University (SETU) in Carlow and were sharing a house in the area. In the wake of the tragedy, a fundraiser for funeral and related expenses raised over ₹25 lakh within 24 hours.
