Kolkata: A 20-year-old MBBS student of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital was found dead in her room at the Kamarhati ESI Hospital quarters on Friday night, police said.
The student, Ivy Prasad, was in her second year of medical school. Her mother, a doctor at Kamarhati ESI Hospital, discovered her unresponsive after repeated calls went unanswered. “Eventually, she broke open the door,” said a senior officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate.
Prasad was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead. No suicide note was found at the scene, and police have registered a case of unnatural death.
Faculty members at RG Kar Medical College described Prasad as generally quiet. Investigators suspect she may have been struggling with depression. Her body has been sent for post-mortem, and an inquiry is underway.
