A court in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, sentenced two men to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment on Wednesday for an acid attack on a 17-year-old girl in 2020. The attack occurred after one of the convicts’ advances were rejected by the victim. Additionally, the court fined each convict, Ehtesham alias Saddam, and Suhail alias PK Baba, Rs 1 lakh.
The incident took place on December 21, 2020, when the girl, a Class 12 student, was returning from her coaching classes in Bahraich’s Kotwali area. According to the police, Ehtesham had been harassing the girl with marriage proposals and troubling her with text messages on her mobile phone.
Police stated that the victim’s testimony was supported by the statements of a female witness and the text messages, which corroborated her account of the harassment and subsequent attack.
