A 24-year-old woman, Kriti Kumari, was found murdered with her throat slit in a paying guest (PG) accommodation in VR Layout, Koramangala, police reported on Wednesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night. Police suspect that the assailant, likely an acquaintance of the victim, attacked her between 11:10 pm and 11:30 pm. The attacker, armed with a knife, entered the PG and assaulted Kriti near her room on the third floor before fleeing. Kriti, who hailed from Bihar and worked in a private company in Bengaluru, died on the spot.

Authorities are thoroughly investigating the case, examining Kriti’s mobile phone and call records. CCTV footage reveals Kriti and the suspect, believed to be an acquaintance, returning to the PG shortly after 11 pm. The footage suggests that a quarrel in her room led to the fatal attack.

“Kriti Kumari had only moved into the PG two days prior,” said a senior police officer. The suspect, carrying luggage, was allowed entry by PG security when Kriti claimed he was her brother and would leave soon after.

Additional Commissioner of Police Raman Gupta told reporters, “The young woman from Bihar, working in the tech industry, was murdered in her PG in Koramangala. The accused is still at large, and a search operation is ongoing. We are also examining the security protocols of PG accommodations as part of the probe.”

Koramangala Police Inspector Nataraj added, “We have registered a case under section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an investigation. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect.”
