NEW DELHI: Three terrorists are believed to have been killed in two separate anti-infiltration operations along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kupwara district, the Army reported on Thursday.
Security forces thwarted two infiltration attempts last night in the Tangdhar and Machil areas of Kupwara district. The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a joint operation in Machil on the night of August 28-29 after receiving intelligence about possible infiltration attempts.
Despite challenging weather conditions, the security forces detected suspicious movement and opened fire on the suspects. It is believed that two terrorists were neutralized in the Machil area and one in Tangdhar. Operations are ongoing to secure the region, officials said.
Meanwhile, in Rajouri district, an encounter broke out between security forces and suspected militants during a cordon and search operation launched in response to suspicious activity. The clash in Rajouri began late Wednesday night and is still ongoing, with additional forces deployed to support the operation and maintain area security.
“A search operation was initiated by security forces in the general area of Kheri Mohra Lathi and Danthal villages in Rajouri district at 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday night following reports of suspected terrorist movement,” a police spokesperson said.
The spokesperson added that contact was made with the terrorists around 11:45 p.m., leading to an exchange of fire between the militants and security forces near the Kheri Mohra area.
