Shimla: In a major theft at the historic Kangra Fort in Himachal Pradesh, 30 invaluable artefacts—including an antique revolver and several silver items—were stolen from a private museum run by the erstwhile royal family of Kangra. The museum showcases artefacts reflecting the legacy of the Katoch dynasty, believed to be one of India’s oldest ruling lineages.

According to police, the thieves broke into the Maharaja Sansar Chandra Museum late Sunday night by removing an exhaust fan and made off with a range of antique silver worship items, silver footwear, metal artefacts, and silver trays.

“We are currently verifying museum records to compile a list of the stolen items,” said Kangra ASP Bir Bahadur. “Preliminary investigations suggest the involvement of at least two suspects, though more people could be linked to the crime. We are analyzing CCTV footage and expect to solve the case soon,” he added.

Authorities have launched an extensive probe to recover the stolen artefacts and identify those responsible for the break-in.
