ELURU, Andhra Pradesh: A police operation in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh, led to the arrest of 30 individuals, including the organizers, for their involvement in illegal gambling on Wednesday. The police also seized ₹8.10 lakh in cash, 25 mobile phones, and a motorcycle during the raid.
Acting on reliable intelligence, Eluru Rural Police raided a gambling operation in the SMR area of Tangellamudi, under the jurisdiction of Eluru Rural Police Station. The suspects were caught in the act of gambling with playing cards in a thatched shed at Paturi Nilayam, owned by Paturi Trinadh.
Eluru Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) D Shravan Kumar confirmed that the raid was conducted under the direction of Eluru SP Kommi Pratap Shiva Kishore and supervised by senior officers. The operation was led by Eluru Town Circle Inspector G. Satyanarayana and Eluru Rural Sub-Inspector K. Durga Prasad, along with their teams.
In addition to the cash and phones, police also seized a bike during the operation. Authorities are currently verifying the criminal backgrounds of the arrested individuals.
While 30 people were apprehended, two key suspects—organizer Pilla Venkatesh, also known as Gutkalu, and another accomplice—managed to escape the scene.
SDPO Kumar stated that a Preventive Detention (PD) case would be filed against the organizers if similar illegal activities are found to recur in the future.
