BAREILLY: Two brothers, Kunwarpal Singh and Amarpal Singh, along with their uncle Nareshpal Singh and cousins Shivam and Hari Om, have been sentenced to life imprisonment by an additional district and sessions court in Bareilly for the 2017 murder of Mahipal Singh, who was allegedly responsible for killing their father. The court also imposed fines of Rs 30,000 each on Kunwarpal and Amarpal, and Rs 25,000 each on Nareshpal, Shivam, and Hari Om.

On December 16, 2017, Mahipal Singh and his brother Ajay Pal were traveling to Hazratpur when they were ambushed by Kunwarpal, Amarpal, and their relatives, who shot Mahipal dead. His wife, Dineshwati Devi, filed an FIR on December 17, 2017, leading to a chargesheet against the accused under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder), and 34 (acts done by multiple persons in furtherance of common intention). A country-made pistol and cartridges were recovered from the accused.

On Monday, the court handed down life sentences to all five individuals. Public prosecutor Atul Singh told, “The brothers and their accomplices killed Mahipal in revenge for the murder of their father, Sumer Singh, 23 years ago. That case was closed due to insufficient evidence.”
