NASHIK: Eight people were killed and several others injured in a collision between a tempo and a truck late Sunday at Dwarka Circle in Nashik district, Maharashtra, according to news agency PTI. The accident occurred around 7:30 pm, near an Ayyappa temple.

The tempo, which had 16 passengers aboard, was en route to the CIDCO area from Niphad, where the passengers had attended a religious event. Police said the tempo driver lost control of the vehicle and rear-ended a truck carrying iron rods. Some passengers died at the scene, while others sustained critical injuries.

Rescue operations were swiftly launched by the police, fire brigade, local residents, and passersby in the busy area. The injured are receiving treatment at the district hospital and various private facilities. Police and health officials have warned that the death toll may rise, as some of the injured are in critical condition.
