Wärtsilä Voyage has invested in Marindows a Japanese company developing an open digital platform for the country’s maritime industries.
The move will see Wärtsilä Voyage and Marindows cooperating on areas such as vessel optimisation and autonomy and strengthen the Finnish-headquartered company’s position in the Japanese market.
The investment was announced coinciding with Sea Japan organised by Informa Markets in Tokyo this week, at which Wärtsilä Voyage is exhibiting.
Yasumasa Suetsugu, President, Marindows noted that the Japanese domestic ocean transport market was one of the largest in the world but also faced complex challenges.
“We provide the solutions to overcome these challenges through digital transformation (DX) and we’re very excited to work together with Wärtsilä Voyage to add new value. Starting with DX, Marindow believes both companies can do more to create a bright maritime future and contribute to a sustainable world,” he said.
Marindows was founded in March 2021 and focuses on the development of a marine digital platform.
“We are deeply committed to the Japanese market, and this is an important step towards establishing and growing our presence there,” said Sean Fernback, President, Wärtsilä Voyage and Executive Vice President, Wärtsilä.
“We can accelerate new value creation and technology adoption by supporting Marindows with our advanced platform and suite of technologies.”
