Six people are feared dead after a boat capsized on Tuesday evening in the Ujani dam waters near Kalashi village, close to Indapur Tahseel in Pune district, Maharashtra.
Initial reports indicated that six individuals were missing. Authorities now believe they have likely drowned.
“Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), along with local administration and police, are engaged in search and rescue operations,” stated police officials at the scene.
According to Pune Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh, “Seven people were on the boat. One managed to swim to safety and raised the alarm, prompting local villagers and rescue teams to respond. A search operation is currently underway.”
The incident occurred during a thunderstorm, with heavy rain and strong winds causing the boat, which regularly ferries locals across the water, to capsize.
