Severe heatwave conditions swept across parts of northwest India on Tuesday, affecting regions in Rajasthan, Gujarat, and Madhya Pradesh, according to the Meteorological Department. Some areas in Rajasthan also experienced unusually warm nights.
The highest temperature recorded on Tuesday was 47.8°C in Sirsa, Haryana, followed by 47.4°C in Najafgarh, Delhi.

Heatwave Alert for May 22:
Heatwave to severe heatwave conditions are expected to persist across the plains of northwest India. Northern Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will likely experience heatwave conditions over the next five days. Central India is anticipated to see a gradual rise in maximum temperatures by 2-3 degrees over this period. In the next 24 hours, no significant temperature changes are expected in Northwest India and Maharashtra, but a gradual increase of 2-3°C is predicted afterward.
Delhi Weather Forecast:
The sky will remain mostly clear in Delhi on Wednesday. Heatwave conditions are expected in some areas, with strong surface winds blowing at speeds of 20-30 km/h and occasional gusts, according to the IMD.
Monsoon 2024 Update:
IMD reports that conditions are favorable for the Southwest Monsoon to advance further into parts of the Southeast Arabian Sea, additional regions of the Maldives, the Comorin area, the South Bay of Bengal, and more parts of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and the Andaman Sea over the next two days.
