NEW DELHI: A big fire broke out in a children’s eye hospital on Wednesday morning, leading to a narrow escape for nearly 50 people, including staff and nearby residents. Fortunately, no patients were present in the building at the time.

The fire started around 11:30 am due to a short circuit in an air conditioner on the ground floor. A police officer said that the Chaudhary Eye Centre has two buildings. The fire began in the children’s eye centre and spread to the upper floor of the next building, which has an OPD section for adults and surgical facilities. At that time, about 15 OPD patients and four surgery patients were inside. Thanks to the swift action of the hospital staff and the effective implementation of safety protocols, everyone managed to exit safely, and no one was hurt.
