JAMMU: Late Tuesday evening, security forces killed a terrorist in a shootout after a group of three gunmen launched a grenade and fired shots at a house in Seda Sohal village, Hiranagar tehsil, in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kathua district. The attack left two villagers critically injured, sources reported, as covered by Sanjay Khajuria.
This incident follows Sunday’s deadly ambush on a bus carrying pilgrims in Reasi district, which resulted in nine fatalities and 41 injuries.
Officials have remained silent regarding the civilians injured in Kathua, which is near the Pakistan border. The attack occurred after locals raised alarms about “suspicious movement” in the area.
Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office and MP for Kathua in the Jammu division, tweeted that he is in contact with district SSP Anayat Ali Choudhary, the owner of the attacked house.
“One terrorist neutralized so far,” Singh posted.
Panic has spread through the area as the attack occurred just two days after the ambush on the pilgrim bus in Reasi, close to the Line of Control (LoC).
On May 18 and 19, a search operation was initiated due to reports of suspicious movement involving three men in the area. Prior to that, villagers in Jathana of Kathua district reported spotting six suspicious men, leading to a similar search operation on May 14, although no arrests were made.
