In a 15-hour-long operation, security forces eliminated a terrorist who had taken refuge in a border village in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Wednesday.
ADGP Jammu detailed the incident, stating that two terrorists, who appeared to have recently infiltrated, opened fire in the village after asking for water from several houses. The villagers, growing suspicious, raised alarms, prompting the terrorists to resort to indiscriminate firing, injuring one person.
“Two terrorists (who appeared to have freshly infiltrated) surfaced in village Saida Sukhal near Koota morh of Police Station Hira Nagar in the late evening of June. They asked for water from a few houses to which villagers grew suspicious and slammed the doors on them and a few raised hue and cry,” according to ADGP Jammu’s post on X.
Panicking, the terrorists fired randomly into the air and at a passerby. Police officers, including the SHO Hiranagar and SDPO, quickly engaged the terrorists. One terrorist was killed while attempting to lob a grenade at the police.
Around 3 am, the second terrorist tried to breach the security cordon, firing indiscriminately at security forces. During this exchange, CRPF jawan Kabir Dass sustained critical injuries and later died in the hospital.
Official vehicles of DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua range, Sunil Gupta, and SSP Kathua, Anayat Ali Choudhary, were struck by multiple bullets during the operation, but both officers escaped unharmed.
This terror attack in Kathua came just two days after another incident in which terrorists attacked a bus carrying pilgrims from the Shiv Khori temple to Katra, causing the vehicle to plunge into a deep gorge. This tragic attack resulted in nine deaths and left 41 others injured.
