Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed satisfaction at attending the summit following his re-election in what he described as the “largest democratic exercise in the history of humankind.”
Modi emphasized the importance of addressing the concerns of the Global South, particularly Africa. He highlighted India’s role in admitting the African Union as a permanent member of the G20 during its presidency.
Speaking on India’s elections, Modi credited the extensive use of technology for making the process fair and transparent. He hailed the return of his government as a victory for democracy. “It is my good fortune that the people of India have given me the opportunity to serve them for the third consecutive time. This has happened for the first time in India in the last six decades. The blessings from the people of India in this historic victory signify the triumph of democracy. It is a victory for the entire democratic world,” he said.
Modi also outlined India’s approach to the energy sector, based on four principles: availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability. He noted that India is the first country to fulfill all its commitments under COP ahead of schedule.
