New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday took a swipe at Congress’s decision to field Priyanka Gandhi Vadra from the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat, suggesting that her husband, Robert Vadra, could be next in line for a political role.
In a post on X, BJP’s Kerala unit chief K Surendran remarked, “Rahul Gandhi claimed that Wayanad is his family. Now, he has decided on the candidature of his own sister, Priyanka Gandhi, for the upcoming by-election in Wayanad. Hope Rahul will also field his brother-in-law, Robert Vadra, in the Palakkad by-election. People now clearly understand Rahul’s family sentiments. It is once again proven beyond doubt that Congress is a tool for the so-called Nehru-Gandhi family to serve their family’s interests. Pathetic.”
Responding to the development, Robert Vadra expressed his happiness about Priyanka contesting from Wayanad. When asked about his potential entry into Parliament, Vadra indicated that he might follow Priyanka at the right time. “They’re (BJP) worried, troubled. They’re huddling together to understand what to do next. Priyanka will be raising issues. She gave the slogan — ‘ladki hoon, lad sakti hoon’ (I’m a girl, I can fight). She has been fighting for women’s rights for a long time. Voices of women will be raised. BJP should look at its own history. They can’t talk about ‘parivarvaad’ (nepotism). People don’t want to hear them anymore. We will fight them and ensure a secular government,” Vadra said.
“It proves that Congress is not a party but a family company,” BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla commented.
