In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, a group of Congress workers was briefly detained by police on Wednesday evening during protests against the establishment of a minority Commissionerate inside the newly inaugurated haj house.

Congress city general secretary, Anis Patel voiced concerns about the sanctity of the Haj House, which would be diluted by the establishment of any government office on the premises.

Patel emphasized that after years of anticipation, the haj house had finally become a reality, serving as a crucial facility for haj pilgrims with activities like cooking and training. He suggested that the minority commissionerate, along with its associated foot traffic, could potentially disrupt the peaceful environment of the haj house.

Proposing alternatives, Patel mentioned several government plots in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, including a forthcoming cluster at the Labour colony, where he believed the minority commissionerate could be more appropriately housed without impacting the haj house’s operations.

Authorities responded to the protesters’ concerns by promising to review their request for relocating the government office to a different location.
