Kolhapur: World Bank officials conducted a visit to Sangli, Miraj, and Kupwad Municipal Corporation areas on Wednesday to assess the impact of recent floods. Sangli’s municipal commissioner and administrator, Shubham Gupta, briefed them on the city’s flood situation. Under Gupta’s guidance, the municipal corporation had submitted a Rs 476 crore proposal to the government for financial assistance from the World Bank to mitigate flood risks in Sangli.
World Bank officials — senior disaster risk management specialist Anup Karanth, senior social development specialist Varun Singh, senior financial management specialist Savinay Grover, and senior environmental specialist Neha Vyas — visited parts of Sangli city, including Shyamrao Nagar, KT Bandhara, Irwin Bridge, Mangaldham, etc.
Accompanying the team were additional commissioners Ravikant Adsul and Chandrakant Khose, city engineer Prithviraj Chavan, chief auditors Shirish Danve and Ravindra Tate, alongside other officials. Prior to this, the World Bank officials had also surveyed flood-prone areas in Kolhapur city on Tuesday. Their inspections are set to continue throughout the week in flood-affected regions.
