Navi Mumbai: Thirty-two people were injured in a head-on collision between two State Transport (ST) buses on Sunday morning near Akshi beach on the Alibaug-Revdanda highway stretch in Raigad. Of the injured, ten sustained severe injuries and were admitted to the civil hospital in Alibaug.
One bus was traveling from Murud to Bhandup, while the other was on its route from Alibaug to Revdanda, heading towards Murud. The accident occurred at a road turn after crossing the Akshi bridge. The driver of the Bhandup-bound bus, Alimbhai Karim Sayyad (33), was reportedly speeding when he crashed into the Revdanda bus.
The impact of the collision resulted in significant injuries to the occupants, including the driver of the Revdanda bus, Nagnath Ghure (37), who suffered a head injury and a fracture. Among the injured, there were 22 women and ten men, including a 17-year-old girl. Most of the injured were locals.
Following the accident, traffic was halted for an hour until a towing van arrived to clear the scene. Dr. Ambadas Devmane, the district civil surgeon, reported, “Most of the injured sustained injuries to their faces, foreheads, and noses due to the collision impact, as their heads struck the backs of the seats in front of them. Thankfully, all the injured are out of danger.”
