Prime Minister, Narendra Modi arrived in Moscow on Monday for a significant two-day visit to Russia. Upon his arrival, he was welcomed by Russia’s First Deputy Prime Minister, Denis Manturov.
This visit, PM Modi’s first to Russia in almost five years, comes at a pivotal moment for both nations. His last trip to Russia was in 2019 for an economic forum in Vladivostok.
On Monday, after interacting with the Indian community in Moscow, PM Modi had an informal meeting with President Putin at Novo-Ogaryovo, Putin’s residence on the outskirts of Moscow. The two leaders enjoyed tea on a terrace before taking a ride together in a golf cart.
PM Modi’s Schedule for Day 2 in Russia
Tuesday: The 2nd day of PM Modi’s visit includes a series of important events.
– Morning: He will start with a Community Event, followed by a wreath-laying ceremony at the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier,’ a war memorial honoring Soviet soldiers who died during World War II. PM Modi will then visit the ROSATOM Pavilion at VDNKh, which showcases Russia’s advancements in nuclear technology.
– Noon: The day will continue with a restricted meeting between PM Modi and President Putin at the Kremlin, paving the way for delegation-level talks. These discussions are expected to lead to the exchange of documents.
– Afternoon: At the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit, PM Modi and President Putin are set to discuss the further strengthening of bilateral ties in various sectors, focusing on trade, energy, and defense cooperation.
In his departure statement, PM Modi emphasized the progress in the “special and privileged strategic partnership” between India and Russia over the past decade. “Our partnership has advanced in areas such as energy, security, trade, investment, health, education, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchanges,” PM Modi noted.
“I look forward to reviewing all aspects of bilateral cooperation with my friend President Vladimir Putin and sharing perspectives on various regional and global issues,” he added.
Evening: Later in the day, PM Modi will depart for Vienna, Austria, marking the end of his Russia visit. “This will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Austria in 41 years,” stated the Ministry of External Affairs.
