Unnao: In a tragic incident, at least 18 people were killed, and 19 others injured when a sleeper bus collided with a milk tanker on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Uttar Pradesh’s Unnao district early Wednesday morning.

The accident occurred near Gadha village when a bus travelling from Bihar to Delhi collided with a tanker while attempting to overtake, causing the bus to overturn.

The bus, predominantly carrying migrant workers, resulted in injuries to all on board, with three reported to be in critical condition among the 19 injured. Authorities have identified two deceased victims, Rajnish Kumar (26) and Mohd Shamim (28), both from Bihar, while efforts are ongoing to identify others involved.

Local authorities have initiated a rescue operation, with the Unnao administration issuing helpline numbers (0515-2970767, 9651432703, 9454417447, 8887713617, 8081211289) for assistance. Prime Minister, Narendra Modi expressed condolences over the tragedy, announcing ₹2 lakh ex-gratia from PMNRF for each deceased and ₹50,000 for the injured.

“The road accident in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, is extremely painful. My heartfelt condolences to those who lost their loved ones. May they find strength in this difficult time. I pray for the swift recovery of the injured. The state government and local administration are actively assisting the victims,” he expressed.
