Mumbai: Mumbai’s popular Juhu beach faced a significant cleanup effort recently, with nearly 200 tonnes of garbage cleared from its shoreline.

The task required the deployment of 138 civic labourers, as there is currently no contracted agency responsible for beach cleaning.

Officials from the solid waste management department explained that civic-appointed labourers were organized into shifts to ensure continuous garbage removal. They noted that during the monsoon season, a larger amount of garbage tends to wash ashore, including debris from sea outfalls. Therefore, having enough labourers is crucial to maintain cleanliness.

Local residents are vigilant about beach cleanliness and promptly report any issues to the BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation).

On June 10, Andheri MLA Ameet Satam criticized the BMC in a letter for the delayed appointment of an agency to clean Juhu beach, highlighting community concerns about maintaining the beach’s cleanliness standards.
