New Delhi: In a tragic hit-and-run case early Sunday morning, three men were killed when a pick-up van struck them on the Vikaspuri District Centre flyover in west Delhi’s Tilak Nagar. The driver of the vehicle has been arrested.
The victims, identified as Ashish (25), Pawan (20), and Suraj (20), were found lying near a scooter on the flyover at around 5:16 am on July 14. Police arrived at the scene and transported them to the hospital, where they were declared dead on arrival.
The deceased were ward boys at a dental clinic in Saraswati Vihar and were reportedly out on a joyride on their scooter. They had recently returned from Murthal and were touring the area, according to police.
A case was registered under sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 106 (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita. A joint team of traffic police and local police collected and analyzed CCTV footage from several locations, including Mangolpuri, Peeragarhi Chowk, and others, which led them to identify the pick-up van involved.
The vehicle’s registration number was traced back to Ram Shankar Yadav of Palam’s Nassirpur Colony. Upon interrogation, Yadav revealed that Mahender Kumar (27) was driving the van at the time of the accident. Kumar has been taken into custody for further investigation.
