NEW DELHI: BJP member Nishikant Dubey raised concerns in the Lok Sabha on Thursday about the rising Muslim population in certain districts of Jharkhand, attributing it to Bangladeshi infiltrators. He called for implementing the National Register of Citizens (NRC) and suggested that the Malda and Murshidabad districts of West Bengal be designated as Union Territories to address this issue.
During zero hour, Dubey highlighted that the tribal population in Jharkhand’s Santhal Parganas region is declining due to the increasing influx of Bangladeshi infiltrators. He noted that these infiltrators are settling in the area and marrying tribal women, who are then contesting elections from local bodies to the Lok Sabha.
“There are at least 100 village heads in the state whose husbands are Muslims,” said Dubey, who represents Godda in Jharkhand. He emphasized that the issue is not about Hindus versus Muslims but about the settlement of outsiders in the region. Dubey pointed out that the population of Muslims has increased in the Santhal Parganas region, with significant migration from Malda and Murshidabad districts, which is displacing the Hindu population from villages in Jharkhand.
