In Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, an 85-year-old woman has died after being allegedly raped in her home in Hafizganj on Monday, according to police reports.
The 35-year-old suspect, identified as Rakesh, who lives in the same neighborhood, has been apprehended. Senior Superintendent of Police Anurag Arya stated that the victim lived alone following the deaths of her husband and son. Her brother and sister-in-law reside nearby, while her daughter-in-law lives with them.
The daughter-in-law reported that she was horrified to discover Rakesh assaulting her mother-in-law when she visited the house around 1 pm. She raised an alarm, causing Rakesh to flee. The family then contacted the police immediately. Unfortunately, the elderly woman succumbed to her injuries following the attack.
The police arrived at the scene and managed to arrest Rakesh, who is reportedly an alcoholic and is currently being interrogated. A panel has been assigned to conduct a post-mortem examination of the deceased woman.
