A six-year-old pre-primary student at a school in Bihar accidentally discharged his father’s licensed pistol on Wednesday, injuring a 10-year-old boy. The incident occurred in a classroom at a school in Triveniganj, Supaul district. The bullet hit the 10-year-old Class III student’s left palm.
The pistol belonged to the child’s father, a security guard at the same school, who took both his son and the weapon and has since gone missing.
According to Triveniganj SDPO Bipin Kumar, the injured child’s relatives reacted by vandalizing the school and blocking the main road of the town until police intervened. Fortunately, the boy is reported to be out of danger.
Authorities are investigating how the young student managed to bring the gun onto the school grounds. They have dismissed rumors linking the incident to a land dispute involving the school and the victim’s family. “The primary focus is on how the child entered the campus with a gun in his bag,” Kumar said. “The injured boy stated that he harbored no grievances against the shooter.”
“Initial indications suggest the shooting was accidental. Further details will emerge once we locate the father and child,” added the SDPO.
