Authorities in Bareilly district are investigating a disturbing pattern after discovering nine women murdered over a span of 14 months, leading to suspicions of a possible serial killer.
The murders occurred within a 25-kilometer radius in rural villages under the jurisdiction of two police stations. All victims, aged between 45 and 55, show striking similarities in their profiles.
The women were found strangled in fields around midday, with their clothing disheveled. There was no evidence of sexual assault, according to reports.
UP DGP Prashant Kumar stated that the police have been examining these cases for six months. The similarity in the modus operandi of the murders has not been ruled out as the work of a serial killer.
“Our investigation has been ongoing for six months, and the consistent pattern of the crimes has led us to consider the possibility of a serial killer,” Kumar said.
