In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy named Tarun drowned in a waterlogged area of a DDA park in Delhi’s Rohini following heavy rainfall.
The incident occurred on Friday evening around 6:30 PM in Sector-20, Rohini, under the Aman Vihar police jurisdiction. Upon receiving reports of the boy’s condition, police rushed him to the hospital, but he was declared dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the boy had drowned in a pond formed by accumulated rainwater in the park. His body has been sent for a post-mortem, and legal procedures are underway.
Tarun, a Class 6 student, lived in Aman Vihar. His father works in a garment shop, and his mother is a homemaker.
The district park, located near Chhat Ghat, spans 12 acres and had a pond created by the recent heavy rains. The water had submerged concrete benches, and a grill fence surrounded the water body.
Despite warnings to stay away from the flooded area, 7-8 children, including Tarun, ventured close to the water. The boy’s body was later discovered by a park guard.
A relative of the boy, Jaswant Singh, expressed the family’s shock, stating they were unaware he had gone to the park. He criticized the district authorities for negligence, citing a lack of proper warnings and supervision in the park.
“This was a tragic and avoidable loss, reflecting a concerning level of neglect from the authorities,” Singh said.
