Six Class VI students were injured on Tuesday when a section of the classroom ceiling collapsed at a government school in Janjgir Champa district, Chhattisgarh. The incident occurred at the Putpura village school during class hours, causing chaos and panic among the students.
A girl sustained serious head injuries, while five other students, including a boy, were also hurt. The injured were promptly rescued and taken to the hospital, where they received initial treatment and are now reported to be in stable condition.
The incident has left students and parents in shock, with many demanding immediate action and assurances before they consider sending their children back to school. The school’s management revealed that they had been requesting repairs or a new building for some time, citing the structure’s poor condition and the increased risk during heavy rains.
A teacher mentioned that just a day before the collapse, a proposal for demolishing the old building and constructing a new one had been approved.
District Collector Akash Chikara visited the hospital to meet with the injured students, while efforts to reach District Education Officer Ashwani Bhardwaj for comments were unsuccessful.
