The Versova police have arrested two men in connection with the death of a 36-year-old rickshaw driver, Ganesh Yadav, who was tragically killed after being run over by a speeding SUV in the early hours of August 12.
Yadav was asleep near Versova beach when the incident occurred. The SUV, driven by Nikhil Jawale (34) with his friend Shubham Dongre (33) as a passenger, allegedly struck and crushed Yadav. Both men have been charged with culpable homicide not amounting to murder.
The accused were brought before a local court in Andheri and have been remanded to five-day police custody for further investigation. Authorities have sent their blood samples for testing to determine if they were intoxicated at the time of the incident.
According to police, another rickshaw driver, Bablu Srivastava, who was sleeping nearby, was awakened by a sudden impact. He witnessed the SUV running over Yadav, who was lying beside him.
