India’s holdings of U.S. government securities reached a record high of $241.9 billion in June, marking the third consecutive month of increased exposure. According to the latest data from the U.S. Treasury Department, Japan leads as the largest holder with over $1.11 trillion in securities, followed by China with $780.2 billion. The United Kingdom ranks third with $741.5 billion, and Luxembourg is fourth with $384.2 billion.

India ranked 12th among countries and jurisdictions, holding $241.9 billion in U.S. government securities in June, up from $237.8 billion in May. This represents the highest level of Indian holdings in the past year, surpassing the previous peak of $237.8 billion recorded in May 2024. In April, India’s holdings were $233.5 billion, down from $240.6 billion in March.
