NYK Bulk & Projects Carriers has concluded a basic agreement with Kambara Kisen for the time charter of a methanol dual-fuel bulk carrier currently under construction at the Tsuneishi Shipbuilding yard.

The vessel, scheduled for delivery in spring 2025, will be the first methanol-fuelled bulk carrier operated by the NYK Group.

The vessel has a dual-fuel main engine that uses methanol and fuel oil.

In a statement issued today (19 August), NYK said that the primary fuels are expected to be bio-methanol and e-methanol, produced using hydrogen derived from renewable energy sources and recovered carbon dioxide.

The vessel will have a general-purpose hull and will be able to transport various cargoes, including grain and ore.
