The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) announced on Sunday that investigators have uncovered significant evidence in their corruption investigation involving Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. The investigation follows the brutal rape and murder of a 31-year-old postgraduate trainee doctor at the institute.
“There’s a lot,” a CBI official told when asked about the progress in the case.
Earlier, CBI officials conducted raids at the residences of Ghosh, former MSVP Sanjay Vashisth, and 13 others in and around Kolkata, in connection with alleged financial irregularities at the medical college.

- The Trinamool Congress (TMC) has questioned the CBI’s handling of the RG Kar Medical College murder case. “The rape-murder case must be solved quickly. So far, only one arrest has been made, and that too by Kolkata Police. What is the CBI doing? As the investigation drags on, politics is taking over,” said TMC leader Kunal Ghosh.
- The prime accused, Sanjay Roy, underwent a polygraph test at Kolkata’s Presidency Jail, where he is currently held. Four others, including former principal Sandip Ghosh, also underwent lie detector tests on Saturday, according to sources.
- A teacher from Alipurduar district, who received the Banga Ratna award from CM, Mamata Banerjee in 2019, has decided to return the award in protest against the state government’s response to the case.
