AHMEDABAD: In a terrifying tale of retaliation, a 30-year-old man in Ahmedabad’s Bodakdev area killed his father’s killer by after waiting 22 years for the right opportunity. The accused, who was eight years old when his father was crushed to death, was raised on tales of the murderers and harbored a strong resentment and desire to exact revenge.
Tuesday afternoon, a pickup vehicle ran over 50-year-old Nakhat Singh Bhati, who worked as a security guard at a residential colony in Ahmedabad’s Thaltej neighborhood, while he was riding his bicycle.
At first, it was thought to be a fatal collision. After running over Nakhat, the accused, Gopal Singh Bhati, attempted to escape, but was apprehended by police not far away and charged with causing death by reckless driving.
Investigation, however, showed that it was a carefully thought-out murder. Gopal’s father, Hari Singh Bhati, was killed in 2002 in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, by a truck, according to Inspector S A Gohil of N division traffic. Nakhat and his four brothers received a seven-year prison sentence after being found guilty of killing Hari. “Gopal had been waiting to exact a cruel revenge since then,” Gohil stated.
