A 43-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a woman on a Delhi-Chennai IndiGo flight on Wednesday, according to Chennai police. The victim reported that Rajesh Sharma, who was seated behind her, touched her inappropriately while she was asleep.
“The incident occurred on the IndiGo flight from Delhi to Chennai. The woman was seated by the window, with Sharma behind her. She claimed he inappropriately touched her while she was asleep,” a police officer from the women’s police station at Meenambakkam airport stated, wishing to remain anonymous.
After the flight landed in Chennai at 4:30 PM, the woman approached airline staff for assistance in filing a police complaint. A case was registered under Section 75 (sexual harassment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), leading to Sharma’s arrest.
Sharma, originally from Rajasthan, has been living in Chennai for some time, the officer noted. “An investigation is ongoing,” he added.
At the time of this report, IndiGo had not released any comments or statements regarding the incident.
