On Tuesday, the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) dispatched two fighter jets to escort an Air India Express flight following a bomb threat. The aircraft landed safely at Singapore’s Changi Airport.
Flight IX 684, traveling from Madurai to Singapore, received an email indicating that a bomb was on board. Singapore’s Defence Minister Ng Eng Hen confirmed the threat, stating, “Two of our RSAF F-15SGs scrambled and escorted the plane away from populated areas, ensuring a safe landing at Changi Airport around 10:04 PM.”
In response to the threat, Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) systems and Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams were activated. After landing, the aircraft was handed over to airport police for further investigation.
Minister Ng expressed gratitude for the “dedication and professionalism” of the SAF and Home Team in maintaining safety despite existing threats. The number of passengers on board has not been confirmed, and Air India Express has not yet released a statement regarding the incident.
