PUNE: On Thursday, the Maharashtra prosecution informed special judge UM Mudholkar in Pune that the state government has granted approval to prosecute two doctors and a mortuary staff member from Sassoon General Hospital in connection with the Porsche Taycan crash case. This incident resulted in the deaths of two young software engineers when the Porsche, driven by a 17-year-old son of a prominent builder, collided with their motorcycle in Kalyaninagar on May 19.
At the time of the accident, the teenager was returning home to Wadgaon Sheri with two friends and his family driver after celebrating the completion of their Class XII board exams at several pubs in Mundhwa. The accused include Dr. Ajay Taware, head of the hospital’s forensic science department, casualty medical officer Dr. Shrihari Halnor, and mortuary staffer Atul Ghatkamble. They are charged with conspiring with the teenager’s father to tamper with the minor’s blood alcohol test by swapping his sample with that of his mother in exchange for money.
The teenager’s case is currently under review by the Juvenile Justice Board, and a police plea to try him as an adult is also pending before the board.
