A seven-year-old boy tragically lost his life after falling into a water-filled pit at an under-construction dairy society office in Kadugodi, according to police reports on Thursday.
Kadugodi police inspector B. Ranga Swamy stated that the incident occurred on Wednesday around 9:30 a.m. while a group of boys, including the victim identified as Suhas Gowda, were playing near the construction site. Suhas slipped into an uncovered pit, approximately five feet deep, which had filled with rainwater. The pit had been dug for the installation of a lift at the dairy building but was left unsecured, creating a significant safety hazard.
Despite locals quickly rescuing him and rushing him to a nearby private hospital, doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
An FIR has been registered at the Kadugodi police station based on a complaint from the victim’s family, naming the dairy corporation president, Sonnappa, and secretary, Sunil, as accused. The complaint also implicates Sonnappa’s son, Ravikumar, who was responsible for overseeing the construction work, including the excavation of the pit. It alleges that the construction team neglected to implement basic safety measures, leading to the child’s death.
“We have registered a case against Sonnappa and Sunil under BNS Section 106 (causing death by negligence) and have issued notices to both for inquiry,” Inspector Ranga Swamy added.
