In Sukma district, a villager was abducted and killed by Maoists on Wednesday. In response, security forces launched an operation and intercepted the group of assailants in the jungle on Friday, resulting in the deaths of at least two Maoists, who were subsequently taken away by their fleeing comrades. This incident marks the seventh villager murdered by Maoists in Bastar since an encounter on October 3, which resulted in the deaths of 38 insurgents.
The latest victim was from Gangrajpaad village in the Konta block, an area known for Maoist activity, located about 100 km from Sukma district headquarters and near the Andhra Pradesh border. On Wednesday night, a group of Maoists forcibly entered his home and abducted him. His body, found on the outskirts of the village on Friday, showed signs of a violent death, including a slit throat.
Sukma Superintendent of Police Kiran Chavan informed TOI that the same group of Maoists was spotted in the Mehta forest during security operations on Friday, leading to a fierce encounter in which at least two insurgents were severely injured.
