Amid rising tensions ahead of the US elections, ABC News Chief Washington Correspondent Jonathan Karl revealed details of a phone conversation he had with former President Donald Trump on Sunday morning. During the call, Karl asked Trump if he thought there was any chance he could lose the election. Trump acknowledged the possibility but remained confident about his chances.

“Yeah, I guess, you know,” Trump said. “I guess you could lose, can lose. I mean, that happens, right? But I think I have a pretty substantial lead. But, you could say yeah, yeah, you could lose. Bad things could happen. You know, things happen, but it’s going to be interesting.”

The race is tight, with neither Trump nor Vice President Kamala Harris holding a commanding lead in the polls. As a result, many expect the final outcome could take days to determine. However, Trump expressed confidence that the country would know the winner by Tuesday night.

Democrats, meanwhile, are concerned that if Trump loses, he may refuse to concede, raising fears of a repeat of the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot. In response, Axios reported that the Trump campaign has prepared for various outcomes. An internal memo sent to staff on Friday, known as the “Donald J. Trump Administrative Update,” outlined plans for both victory and defeat. The memo, written by co-campaign manager Susie Wiles, acknowledged the uncertain outcome, using phrases like “should we be victorious,” “regardless of the outcome,” and “God willing,” suggesting the campaign was bracing for either possibility.
