IZWAL/SILCHAR: Unrest over the killing of 10 alleged militants by security forces in Manipur’s Jiribam on November 11 has sparked protests in neighboring Assam and Mizoram. Tribal groups gathered outside Silchar Medical College, demanding answers over the delayed autopsies, while the Mizo National Front (MNF), an ex-NDA ally, condemned the deaths as “extra-judicial killings.”

By Tuesday evening, six of the slain men, identified as Hmar militants, had been autopsied, but delays in processing the remaining bodies fueled growing frustration among protesters. Cachar district SP Numal Mahatta attempted to quell rumors, clarifying that there was “no deliberate postponement” of the autopsies.

In Aizawl, the MNF declared the victims “fallen heroes,” accusing the CRPF and police of bias and framing village volunteers as militants. The party’s statement condemned the actions of the security forces, warning that such incidents could escalate tensions in the already fragile region. The bodies are to be transported to their homes via Mizoram.

Amid the unrest, 13 civil rights organizations imposed a shutdown in Manipur’s valley areas, protesting the alleged abduction of three women and children from a Meitei shelter in Jiribam. Armed assailants also torched two trucks carrying supplies near Tamenglong, adding to the growing unrest.
