The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a senior section engineer (SSE) of Indian Railways on Wednesday for demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 in Gonda district, officials confirmed on Thursday. The accused, Arun Kumar Mishra, was caught red-handed and was subsequently produced before a CBI court in Lucknow for further legal proceedings.

According to a press statement from the CBI, Mishra, who serves as the senior section engineer at the P Way Truck Depot in Gonda, was arrested after the agency registered a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The CBI is continuing its investigation and conducting searches at the accused’s premises.

The case was filed after the CBI verified allegations made by a complainant, who claimed that Mishra had demanded a bribe of ₹50,000 for loading materials from the Railway Material Depot. The complainant further alleged that Mishra had been extorting ₹100 per ton of materials loaded over the past two months, threatening to disrupt the complainant’s work and cancel an ongoing tender if the bribe was not paid.
