In a significant drug bust, the Indian Navy intercepted two Sri Lankan fishing vessels in the Arabian Sea and seized 500kg of crystal meth. The operation was initiated after the Sri Lankan Navy alerted Indian authorities earlier this week about the suspected drug smuggling activities of the two Sri Lankan-flagged vessels.

Following the tip-off, the Indian Navy conducted extensive aerial surveillance using P-8I long-range maritime patrol aircraft and drones, with additional support from the Information Fusion Centre (Indian Ocean Region) in Gurugram. The two vessels were located in international waters, and two Indian warships were deployed to intercept them.

Upon boarding the vessels, the naval teams discovered the narcotics hidden on board. The vessels, along with their crews and the seized drugs, are being handed over to Sri Lankan authorities for further legal action, according to an officer involved in the operation.
