NEW DELHI: The Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Friday that 519 Indian nationals were deported from the United States in the past year for being declared “unauthorized to stay” by US authorities.

In response to questions from TMC member Mala Roy about the deportation of Indians from the US, Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Azad provided a written reply. According to the data from the US government, 519 Indian nationals were deported to India between November 2023 and October 2024. Deportations were carried out by the US government using both commercial and chartered flights.

Azad was asked by Roy about the number of Indians, both men and women, deported from the US during the past year, as well as the specific reasons for their deportation. The minister’s reply indicated that the deportations were the result of US authorities issuing orders for removal, as the individuals were found to be unauthorized to stay in the US. However, the response did not provide detailed reasons for why these individuals were considered unauthorized.
