Google has introduced Gemini 2.0, the latest iteration of its AI technology, designed for the emerging “agentic” era of intelligent systems. This advanced model powers AI agents—smart assistants capable of executing tasks independently on users’ behalf.

Gemini 2.0 Powers Next-Gen AI Agents

Among its showcased applications is Jules, an AI agent capable of coding, diagnosing issues, and autonomously resolving them. Google also highlighted Project Mariner, which enables AI-driven task execution on the web.

“We’re kicking off the Gemini 2.0 era with Gemini 2.0 Flash, which outperforms 1.5 Pro on key benchmarks at twice the speed,” Google stated. The company emphasized significant advancements in coding capabilities, with further updates expected soon.

Developers can access an experimental version of Gemini 2.0 via AI Studio and Vertex AI, and it is also available for testing through the GeminiApp on the web, with mobile support launching soon.

Gemini 2.0 in AI Overviews

Gemini 2.0’s capabilities are also being integrated into AI Overviews, Google’s AI-powered summaries for research-intensive topics. CEO Sundar Pichai announced that these features have already reached over 1 billion users and are set to expand to more countries and languages in the coming year.

“No product has been more transformed by AI than Search,” Pichai remarked. “Our AI Overviews are enabling users to ask entirely new types of questions, making it one of our most popular Search features ever.”

The next phase of Gemini 2.0 will focus on enhancing AI Overviews with advanced reasoning, addressing complex topics, multi-step queries, advanced math equations, multimodal questions, and coding. Limited testing has begun, with a broader rollout planned for early next year.

A Leap Forward in AI

Gemini 2.0 represents Google’s ambition to lead in AI innovation, delivering smarter, faster, and more capable tools to users and developers alike, pushing the boundaries of what AI can achieve.
