The Bhopal unit of the Lokayukta’s Special Police Establishment (SPE) uncovered assets worth crores during a raid on the house of a former road transport constable in the upscale Arera Colony on Thursday, in connection with a disproportionate assets case.

Officials reported that Rs. 2.5 crore in cash, along with gold and silver jewelry and documents pertaining to movable and immovable property, were found at the residence of Saurabh Sharma. The total value of the assets could amount to up to Rs. 3 crore. ADG-Lokayukta Jaideep Prasad confirmed that raids were carried out at two locations linked to Sharma.

Two teams were deployed at 7 am to conduct the searches. The house of Sharma’s alleged associate, Chandan Singh Gaur, was also searched, along with a hotel reportedly owned by Sharma.

The searches followed an investigation into a complaint against Sharma. Having retired a year ago after 12 years in the transport department, Sharma is now involved in real estate. Officers revealed that Sharma had started investing in property even while still in government service.

The Lokayukta’s investigation has uncovered evidence of Sharma’s property holdings across several districts, including Bhopal. The probe has so far linked him to investments in a hotel and a school.
