A group of irate passengers at Basti railway station in Uttar Pradesh reportedly went on a rampage after the doors of the Antyodaya Express were locked. A viral video shows passengers using stones to smash the glass on the train’s entry door, while others are seen attempting to tear off the iron rods on the windows.
The video, shared on X, captioned the incident: “Angry passengers pelted stones at the coach after the gate of 15101 Antyodaya Express failed to open at Mankapur railway station. The act broke the glass and led to a stampede inside the train. The train was traveling from Chhapra to Mumbai.”
In the footage, one passenger takes a stone from another and uses it to break the glass on the locked door. Meanwhile, others try to dismantle the iron grill on the windows, with one individual squeezing through the opening to enter the train.
What Sparked the Vandalism?
According to Sources, the violence erupted after passengers failed to board the already overcrowded train. “To prevent additional passengers from boarding, those inside the train secured the coach from within. This enraged passengers waiting at Basti station,” said official sources.
Authorities’ Response
Chandra Mohan Mishra, Senior Divisional Security Commissioner of Northeastern Railway, stated, “We have the footage of the vandalism, and our teams are working to identify those involved.” The incident occurred late on Tuesday night around 10:30 pm. As of now, no arrests have been made.
