KOPPAL: Two days after a 13-year-old boy tragically drowned in an open well during a school trip in Bhatkal, Uttara Kannada district of Karnataka, the education department took action by suspending six teachers for negligence.
The incident occurred when 100 students and 11 teachers from Gandaal Government Higher Primary School were on a tour to coastal Karnataka. On Friday evening, the buses made a brief stop, and during this time, Nirupadi Biradar, a Class 8 student, stepped out to answer nature’s call. Tragically, he slipped and fell into an open well.
Srishail Biradar, Deputy Director of Public Instruction, confirmed the suspension of the school’s headmaster Hanumesh Bellad, along with assistant teachers Shivakumar Avasangarad, Nagaraj Shettar, Amaresh Ballari, Iramma Badiger, and Padmavati Pawar. The state government has also announced a compensation of ₹5 lakh for the boy’s grieving family.
On Sunday, Naveen Kumar Gulagannavar, the president of the district BJP unit, visited the family to express condolences.
